Local Parks that surround St Leonards
One of the largest and best-loved parks is St Leonards Park. It has a distinctive Victorian landscape character and is rich in history and heritage. The park is a pet friendly place to play, relax and socialise.
The park features include the War Memorial, Tunks Fountain, a Music Shell and a custom-design playground. It has open lawn areas with shady trees, public toilets, shelters, lights, seats, picnic tables, barbecues, a bubbler, and paved pedestrian paths.
Next door to St Leonards Park is North Sydney Oval, a multi-use sporting facility. The oval was first used as a cricket ground in 1867, it is also used for Soccer, Rugby League, Union and Australian Rules Football. With a capacity around 20,000, the ground contains a number of grandstands seating around 9,000 people. North Sydney Oval also hosts state cricket games for the New South Wales Blues.
Only a short walk from St Leonards train station is Newlands Park, located at the corner of Canberra Ave and Duntroon Avenue. With lots of trees and plants, the park is quite shady on a sunny day.
You will find a small children’s playground further down from the entrance. There is plenty of land for active kids to run around and play games. The playground has two play areas, one for toddlers and the other for older children.
Lane Cove Golf Club is a friendly, affordable, community-based golf club. Situated only 1.2kms from St Leonards the course is a verdant haven perfectly in harmony with nature. The Club was formed in the late 1950s when the founding members built the clubhouse and the golf course which opened for play in 1964.
The Club offers member competitions five days per week and public play is available 7 days per week outside of member competition times. The Golf Club is situated on a challenging 9-hole public access course (with two alternate tees and greens). The Clubhouse offers bar, dining and function facilities with a large terrace overlooking the 9th/18th fairway and green.
The Indoor Sports Centre consists of four fully enclosed playing areas, grandstand seating, meeting and change rooms and parking for up to 100 cars. Basketball and badminton is mainly played at the Centre. The Centre is also able to accommodate sports for the disabled, such as wheelchair basketball.
